Mickelson Rails to Trail Ride (MTR)
Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30th
This ride is for the intermediate and advanced bikers with a yen to see all that the Black Hills has to offer. This 109 mile rails to trails ride flows through the heart of the Black Hills. The Mickelson Trail follows an abandoned railroad bed, and climbs gently through jagged cliffs and pine forests.
The Mickelson Trail has a crushed limestone surface and wide path. It tops out at 6,100 feet but never exceeds a 4-percent grade (making it perfect for leisure riders). Trestle bridges, railroad tunnels and incredible scenery add to the trail's charm.
This two-day ride will begin with a shuttle trip to Deadwood. The first day will be a ride of 48 miles from Deadwood to Hill City. The second day we will start with a shuttle ride to Hill City and continue 61 miles into the town of Edgemont.
Each rider should carry a water bottle or camel back. Please bring your bike, bike gear, lunch and snacks. We will have an ice chest in the van to keep your lunches and snacks cold. Riders can ride the entire length each day or can pick and choose to ride certain sections.
The Mickelson Ride is included with your All-Festival Pass. Shuttle transportation is not included in the cost and must be purchased in advance. (Transportation Costs: $45.00 (Pre-registration required on or before May 15th.)
