This past year Festival Organizers were told if you want to get the top racers in the Mid-west at the event put your money where your mouth is! That is how the King of the Hills event was born.
This year Organizers and Sponsors are putting up over $1000.00 in prize money. Yes, you heard us right. $1000.000 just for the King/Queen of the Hills Series Race.
There is a catch though. You must race and finish all three races, (X-country, Cowboy Hill Climb, and the Super D. You also must race in Expert category in all three races.
A point system will be used to determine the top finishers within each race in the series. Each competitor's three-race point total determines final series rankings. In case of a tie in point totals, the winner will be determined based on their place in the final race (Super D).
Points will be awarded to the top 20 male and female in each race. Should there not be 20 racers in either male or female the cash prize will be adjusted by $20 less for each rider under 20. (Example: if we only have 8 women who participate in the Queen of the Hills Series the prize money for the series would be adjusted by $240.00 (12 X $20). Prize money available for that series would be $260.00 and winning percentages will be adjusted accordingly.
Prize money will be given out as follows: (Based on at least 20 riders and $500 in prize money. 1st place – 50% ($250), 2nd place 30% ($150), 3rd place 10% ($50), 4th place 5% ($25), 5th place 3% ($15.00), 6 place 2% ($10)
(Remember cash prizes will also be given out for the top 3 finishers in each expert division race. Prize money will be based on the number of contests in each race. A 100% payback from all entries in the expert class will be paid out. There is a possibility that one rider could take home over $2,000 in prize money based on 50 riders in each event!)
Points for King/Queen of the Hill will be awarded as follows for each race:
| 1st place (50 pts.) |
6th place (23 pts.) |
11th place (11 pts.) |
16th place (5 pts.) |

COWBOY HILL SPRINT CLIMB- Friday, May 23rd 6:00 p.m
this race brought to you by First National Bank
Hill Climb Race Information ( back to Events Page) |
There are four types of hill climbs: the even grade, the concave, the convex and the KILLER hill. There are also four factors determining how well one can climb a hill. The first is strength, the second is gearing, the third is strategy, and the fourth is GUTS. And when you use KILLER HILL and GUTS in the same sentence you have described the Cowboy Hill Sprint Hill Climb.
On this 527 foot vertical rise in .86 of a mile, guts are what you will need in order to compete on this adrenaline junky’s worst nightmare of a ride. Ten minutes of all out determination and shear willpower is the only way to describe this accent along the Cowboy Hill trail. Spots reaching into the 12% grades with sustained 6-8% grades along the way make this not quite a Sunday bike ride in the park.
One thing for sure: “It will be a piece of cake to get back down!”
(Note: Race course will be set up for practice all day Friday, May 23rd.)

SUPER D - Sunday, May 25th 10:00 a.m.
Individual Time Trial Start ( back to Events Page) |
Super D race will be held at the festival grounds on Cowboy Hill.
This first time BHFTF Super D is a mountain bike race that most closely resembles the typical weekend warrior race that arises naturally among riding buddies. It’s not too long, but it has plenty of tight turns, lose rock and several short climbs. The BHFTF Super D, like your local beer can race, is mostly a downhill run. It’s got some technical stuff (step ups/step downs) to see who has the huevos, but some flats to see who has the lungs, and a few climbs to see who has the legs. This should be an exciting race for all who participates. Race will be an individual time trial series. Practice and shuttle for the Super D will be available between 7:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. day of event.
The Super D Course will be set up Friday and Saturday afternoon to ride however there will be no shuttle service to the top. Barbeque will be held immediately after the Super D Race
